    I hear you - in the first half of the '90s, you could get mail through
    the backbones with just an overnight call. In the later half of the
    90s, I discovered internet/Fido transport, and set my system to poll my
    uplink several times a day. Getting mail the same day from around the
    world from an old DOS box in the corner was an incredible leap.

    It also blows my mind that a community still exists in the BBS space, back in the day everyone seemed to know everyone "locally" over a handful of BBSes, it seems there are a few of us left internationally so that sense of community is still here.

    i would call them cliques, not communities. things are very very
    different.
